Did you know that white marble from Greece was brought in to add to the gleam of the Sheikh Zayed Mosque courtyard in Abu Dhabi, which aside from its minarets and marble domes also features the world’s largest hand-knotted carpet? Or that Emirates Palace has 1,002 chandeliers, with the heaviest weighing 2.5 tonnes?
As for Abu Dhabi properties, there’s a lot to be said here too. Italy’s no longer the only country with a record-setting leaning tower. The Capital Gate building in Abu Dhabi, certified as the world’s furthest leaning man-made tower, is a 35-story building that is nearly five times farther than the iconic Leaning Tower of Pisa. Not only does it house an exhibition centre, it also features a 5-star hotel, 20,000 sq. m. of office space, a pool, a tea lounge and a café!
As for Dubai, it has been one of the most exciting economic stories of our times. Glamourous, glitzy and ever-dynamic, it has shaped itself into one of the world’s leading global cities and the Middle East’s business and cultural focal point. Today, one out of every 4 cranes on Earth is located in Dubai. Coming to real estate, Dubai’s Palm Islands imported enough sand to fill more than two Empire State Buildings. The Burj Al Arab, one of the world’s most luxurious hotels, the world’s only seven-star hotel and the fourth tallest hotel in the world, uses gold enough to cover over 46,000 Mona Lisa paintings. As for the world’s tallest tower, Dubai holds the record too. In fact, if Burj Khalifa was in Germany, you would still see it from France.
Coming to Dubai properties, did you know that if you bought a one-bedroom pad in the city today, you would spend nearly AED 400,000 less than what you would have paid about seven years ago? In the words of our CEO, Ryan Mahoney, “Prices are good and buyers have negotiating room as the market is slow. Sellers that were asking exorbitant prices in the first quarter of 2014 are now asking a far lesser price. He adds, “It’s not a case of the laws being changed, it’s the new laws that didn’t yet exist in what is still a young property market, were introduced. Remember, that the laws to sell Dubai properties to non-GCC nationals are themselves very young and I believe enormous progress has been made in the Dubai real estate industry over the last five years.”
